Empowering artists-in-training from the inside out.

Who We Are

A global alliance of drama schools, conservatoires, and arts institutions committed to supporting student wellbeing.

Artist Mind Alliance is a global network solely committed to transforming how mental health is supported within arts-based training environments. We bring together our network of drama schools, conservatoires, and creative institutions across the UK and beyond to champion student wellbeing through collaboration, education, and the development of best practice. Our goal is to create a minimum standard to ensure that every student training in acting, dance, musical theatre, music, production, or design has access to a safe, supportive and psychologically informed learning environment.

We believe that creative excellence and mental health should go hand in hand. Yet, in many intensive training settings, the emotional and psychological demands placed on students are rarely matched with adequate support. Artist Mind Alliance exists to close that gap. We offer a platform for institutions to share best practices, co-create training and resources, and engage with guest speakers, webinars, and in-person events; all grounded in evidence-based approaches to wellbeing.

Membership in the Alliance includes signing our Mental Health Charter which acts as a shared commitment to a minimum standard of care. This charter serves not only as a pledge but as a roadmap, helping institutions to assess, strengthen, and continuously evolve their wellbeing provision. As part of a growing international community, members gain access to practical tools, professional development opportunities, and a space to lead meaningful change across the creative education sector.

With partners and collaborators worldwide, Artist Mind Alliance is proud to facilitate global conversations about mental health in arts training. We’re working to build a future where every student feels seen, supported, and able to thrive. Together, we will build healthier artists for the future.

What We Do

We equip arts institutions with the tools, training, and connections they need to better support student mental health.

  • At the heart of the Alliance is our Mental Health Charter: a framework of minimum standards for wellbeing support in arts training that all of our members sign up to. Signing the charter allows our members to gain access to the necessary tools and development frameworks to allow them meet and exceed those standards.

  • We provide a platform for educators, support staff, and institution leaders to connect, collaborate, and share best practices through roundtables, forums, and cross-institutional partnerships.

  • We offer tailored sessions for students and staff on mental health awareness, resilience, psychological safety in the rehearsal room, and more. Delivered online or in-person by industry professionals and mental health specialists.

  • Our speaker programme connects institutions with artists, clinicians, and researchers who offer valuable perspectives on wellbeing, identity, creative practice, and the challenges of working in the performing arts.

  • Our members are able to access downloadable mental health toolkits, policy templates, training guides, and research summaries designed specifically for arts-based education environments.

  • We collaborate with researchers and practitioners to produce and share evidence-based insights into student mental health. Members can participate in joint research projects or use our findings to inform institutional policies.

  • With partners in the UK, US, UAE, and beyond, we foster international exchange on mental health in creative education ensuring our approaches are diverse, inclusive, and globally informed.

“Becoming a member of Artist Mind Alliance has been a game-changer for our institution. The support, training, and sense of community we’ve gained have empowered us to make real, lasting improvements to how we support our students' mental health. The Mental Health Charter gave us a clear framework, but it’s the people that truly set this network apart.”
